Rain Barrel Workshops
The Lubbock Memorial Arboretum is proud to be involved in Lubbock’s “green” movement. In a partnership with the City of Lubbock and Hodges Community Center, we are excited to bring the Rain Barrel Workshops to the Lubbock community.
Rain barrels are a great way to conserve water for irrigating your home garden and to reduce storm water runoff. Lubbock receives about 18 inches of rainfall each year. You can collect rainwater from rooftops in mosquito-proof containers. This water can be used later on lawn or garden areas, saving you money during the long hot summer months. Even if you do not have a gutter system currently on your home, rain barrels can be strategically placed to function effectively.
Learn how to prepare and decorate the rain barrel, how to put it in the best location for ease of use, and how to mosquito-proof it.
Reserve your space now and take an active part in water conservation efforts in your own neighborhood!
All of the workshops will be held on Saturday afternoons at Hodges Community Center, located at Clapp Park – 40th and University. The cost of each workshop is $50 and includes all the materials required to create a rain barrel. Let your imagination run free with a paintbrush in your hand!
